The little things in life
This week we installed a mosquito net over our bed. How much better it makes things! Instead of waking up with 20+ bites and hoping that none of those mosquitos are carrying dengue fever or any other strange disease that coastal mosquitos carry, we can sleep peacefully. I had to sew a loop in the center to string the middle up, because Igor claimed to feel clostrophobic with the net drooping down, even though it was still a good two feet from touching him. In the mornings we wear our bug proof jackets around the house getting ready, so now we can be bite free both mornings and nights when those little insects are out and about.
While seated in the office today, I looked out at the top of a tree blooming less than 2 meters from the window. To my delight I got to watch a grist of bees and a hummingbird go about their work of pollenating the flowers for about ten minutes before my little bird flew off. Shortly thereafter a little yellow bird came a hopped around the tree. I caught him on camera in midair just as he was jumping off of a branch.
I also became the proud owner of a zampoƱa, better known as pan pipes, this week and hope to learn how to play a few traditional songs on the instrument, first and foremost "The Condor Pasa".
Igor started his 30 day rotation in the emergency room for internal medicine yesterday and looks forward to having fewer night shifts this month, before hitting it really hard in March for his final month of residency in internal medicine.
